Greta-Jane is a Berlin-born artist based in Toronto, using art to follow her thoughts and capture the hidden magic she feels in the world. She’s always believed in the power of visual storytelling to hold onto fleeting moments that might otherwise slip away. Having moved between Europe and North America since childhood, Greta-Jane finds inspiration in contrast, dreams, and emotional landscapes. She works playfully and intuitively with mixed media, drawing, painting, and collage, and she is always chasing the next spark of wonder.
Sky Collector
Mixed media, 12" x 18", 2025
Skyline Collector reflects my experience of growing up between Europe and North America, the beginning in Berlin and now the present in Toronto – two cities which are so different and which have both shaped me. I depict myself as a young girl holding the CN Tower, the Berlin Fernsehturm standing in the distance, two landmarks that echo each other across continents. I explore how distance, memory, and place intersect, and how pieces of each city stay with me. The sun sets in Toronto as the moon rises in Berlin, in cyclical time. This piece describes the in-between, where identities overlap, shift, and resist easy definition. The title, Skyline Collector, alludes to the places I carry with me and how, perhaps, the collection is still unfinished.
