Prismatic Soul
Oil on canvas, 27" x 40", 2025
"Prismatic Soul" was painted six months after I immigrated to Canada, during a time when I was still adjusting to a new culture, language, and way of life. It reflects the emotional intensity and inner fragmentation I experienced during that period, caught between two worlds, as I tried to piece together who I was becoming. The figure’s face is made up of vivid, overlapping patches of color, each shape representing a part of identity, memory, or belonging. These fragments don’t quite merge, just as I didn’t yet feel fully connected to my new home, nor completely rooted in the one I left behind. Through this piece, I tried to express the ambiguity and beauty of that transitional space—the resilience it takes to exist in multiple cultural realities at once. Prismatic Soul is a visual response to disconnection, transformation, and the quiet strength of navigating life between borders.
